Introducing the new Preston Budget Fencing range.

For a cost effective fencing solution, this pre fabricated Preston fencing system will appeal to the budget conscience customer.

We can now provide a great alternative fencing option that is corrosion resistant and has a wide range of applications and is ideal as perimeter or pool surrounds and meets current New Zealand Pool Fencing Regulations.

These Preston Fences are made from the highest quality aluminium which is very light and strong making it extremely resilient once in place. All Preston fences come in black as standard and are 1200mm, 1500mm or 1800mm High. For a small additional charge other powder coated colours can be provided.

All components for these Preston Fencing & Gates are made from cast aluminium, meaning that they are extremely durable and will stand up to years of wear and tear.

Post and Feet
The proprietary post system has been especially developed to add strength. The Post interlocks perfectly with the Foot making the entire system sturdy and robust.

Post & Rail Brackets
To fix the panels to the posts a bracket system is used. The brackets are screwed onto the post and the fence slots into the gap in the bracket. All brackets have three fixing holes for added strength.

Post Caps
The unobtrusive cap locks in perfectly with the Post to give a smart yet safe finish to the entire system.

Gates
Gates are available for Pool Applications. Standard width is 1m wide x 1200mm high or can be fabricated to custom sizes. All pool gates are fitted with regulation self closing hinges and a pool latch.

Above is a photo of a recent Preston installation which was completed where the customer required a cost effective fencing solution. As a sliding gate was required, the Preston budget fencing panels were incorporated into the design of the sliding gate to keep continuity.

The 7.5km Orewa Estuary cycle and walkway crosses 5 bridges and was a Rodney District Council Legacy Project which was completed by the newly formed Supercity Auckland Council.

Te Ara Tahuna opened in December 2011 and connects some of Orewa’s newest areas with Hibiscus Coast beaches, community facilities and the Orewa township.

FGS Metalwork was approached to manufacture fencing for the Orewa Cycleway Bridge which was being constructed by the Wharahine Group.

FGS Metalwork worked closely with the engineers Hutchinson Consultants to produce the required fencing and fabricated it all in the workshop in Silverdale.

The 7.5km pathway winds its way around the beautiful Orewa estuary and is a great place for the whole family to get out and enjoy this area together. Distance markers are placed at 1km intervals from Western Reserve.

----

The wooden gate division of FGS Group Ltd has seen many projects completed over the last year.

----

A popular design and construction has been cedar tongue and groove cladding onto an internal aluminium frame. This popular style provides a robust structure which remains straight, provides privacy and offers good aesthetics for our clients.

----

Depending on your budget, either single or double sided cladding options offer a good result on any of our sliding, single swing gates, double swing gates or pedestrian gates. Automation is usually installed onto these gates providing the convenience to operate the automatic gates by remote control.

----

A recent installation saw construction of a custom designed and built sliding gate to fit in with the rural setting where the client resides. With the combination of tanalised timber and structural steel components, this wooden gate successfully ticked all the boxes for style, strength, durability, practicality and reliability.

----

The design & build of this solid cedar gate displays the workmanship and quality which FGS expects of its team, from design through to installation.
The stainless steel support system and copper cap finish this wooden gate to a quality deserving of its coastal location.

Earlier this year, FGS Metalwork was contracted by Fort Project Management to build an extension to the Opanuku Stream Bridge on Great North Road at the northern entrance to Henderson in Waitakere.

Auckland Council felt the need improve the walkway and enhance the entrance to the Henderson shopping area so with local artist Jason Hall and Nick from Mitchell Vranjes Consulting, the project got underway.

Before work began on site, many hours of drawing took place in our office. All aspects for manufacture and installation were detailed and the way the whole structure and balustrade went together, with over 20 tonnes of steel, was testament to our attention to the smallest detail.

Clamp plates weighing 850kg were bolted to the existing piers to hold the 2200 kg, 13.5 metre beam that spanned between them. The beam was the central support member for the pipe lattice work that supports the viewing platform.

The pipe work structure and balustrade was all fabricated in our workshop in Silverdale.
After Hot Dip Galvanizing all steelwork was blasted and painted at Avondale Blasting and Coatings.
The structure was then craned into position.

The finished product is impressive to view from underneath as it appears the entire structure is just hanging off the edge of the bridge

20 tall Finial Poles with lights on top were also manufactured and installed on site at different rakes.
The unique balustrade and the grate walkway add the finishing touches at street level.

And the crowning feat.... THE WELSH PICKET! Designed by Hilton Miller.

Galvanised Steel Safety Barrier

FGS Metalwork has recently completed work on the Symonds Street Motorway Overbridge Safety Barriers.

This work was successfully completed for the opening of the Rugby World Cup.

FGS Metalwork was contracted by Ron Williams from Gibbons Contractors Ltd to manufacture and install the safety barriers for ARMA (Auckland Road Maintenance Alliance).

The purpose of the barriers was to prevent people falling off the footpath onto the Symonds St on-ramp to the southern motorway.

After = Dangerous drop off to on-ramp made safe with Galvanised Safety Barrier

The barriers were constructed to comply with NZBC F4 safety from falling.

The process involved locating services, measuring, drawing, fabrication and installation.

Accurate measuring of any site is the key to a successful result. Using equipment including laser levels allow for measurements to the smallest degree.

AUTOCAD drawing in progress

These measures form part of the AUTOCAD drawings which detail all aspects for fabrication in our Silverdale factory and installation by our team on site. Drawings were then submitted to the client for approval.

The fabricated product was manufactured and hot dipped galvanised to AS/NZS 4680 standard by CSP Galvanising.

Galvanising is a durable, low maintenance coating ideal for industrial applications.

The installation was completed during the night between the hours of 7pm and 5am. As this is such a busy area it had to be fully operational for public use during the day and peak travel times. A formal council approved traffic management plan was used with strict limitations for compliance. e.g the waste dirt bin had to be delivered at 7pm and be removed from site before 5am each day.

The site team worked under task lights powered by generators to complete the job.

After work completed

Leading on from one of our earlier stories, FGS Metalwork was recently in the papers again for work it has completed, this time at the newly opened Novotel at Auckland airport which was finished for the Rugby world Cup 2011.

FGS Metalwork recently completed an architectural revolving feature wall to provide screening in the private dinning room area. The screening stands over 6.2 meters high.

A Keen Kiwi aesthetic - By Claire McCall

….another example is the 6.2-metre tall tukutuku panels that screen off a private dining room. Keen commissioned Hudson Wilton of FGS Metalwork to make the panels which are decorated with diamond patiki in an eco-resin. The patiki symbol is taken from the lozenge shape of the flounder and so, in Maori culture, signifies an abundance of fish. Each screen needed four people to carry it into position. "It was an amazing feat of engineering that they don't bow and that they pivot so smoothly."

The Rugby World Cup 2011 lands in New Zealand this year and a joint venture between Tainui and Auckland Airport to build a quality hotel run by Novotel is nearing completion.

FGS Metalwork in conjunction with Warren and Mahoney Architects have worked together to design and construct an architectural revolving feature wall to provide screening in the private dinning room area. The screening stands over 6.2 meters high.

The following photos are of the architectural screening being installed by FGS Metalwork. Stay tuned for new posted photos on completion.

Each Screen was over 6.2 meters long and required 4 people to carefully carry each of the 12 screens.

The screens were 3mm thick steel sheets which were first laser cut to specification and then folded as required. Finally they were powder coated and ready for the time consuming 'eco resin' diamonds to be fitted.

Each of the different 'eco resin' coloured see through diamond shapes were meticulously fitted as per the architects design pattern.

The panels were laid out and fitted to the ceiling. Each screen was well covered to protect it from damage.

The team at FGS Metalwork worked hard throughout the day to install all the screens ready for the next stage of the development to be completed.

The bridge is one of a number of bridges constructed by FGS Group Ltd. FGS helped with structural design in conjunction with our FGS Structural department and also assisted in the design of handrails, balustrade and steel coverings.

To make ensure the artist's original design concepts were structurally viable, FGS created the fabrication and construction plan drawings created in house on Autocad.

FGS Metalwork helped project manage through the whole process and supplied skilled and experienced installers.

Press Release: Waitakere City
June 9, 2009

Piha’s eel bridge in line for another award

Piha’s ‘Story of the Eel’ footbridge is in the running for another national award after being named finalist in the Association of Consulting Engineers Innovate NZ 2009 Awards.
The bridge, linking the Piha Domain with Piha South Beach is among 35 finalists for the awards, which are announced on July 25.

In its submission for the awards, Duffill Watts, consulting engineers on the project, described the bridge as a technically complex structure, as it was challenging to incorporate the artistic aspirations of the design with a structure which met building standards and be in keeping with the unique coastal environment of Piha.

The bridge concept was created by Piha artist Mandy Patmore and represents the migratory eel, celebrating the long and short fin eels that still live in the Piha Stream.

Its winding eel-like shape is combined with a floor surface inlayed with motifs representing the different stages of the eel’s life cycle.

Historically, eels were of great significance to early Maori, featuring in many myths.

“Having a bridge in the shape of an eel provides an opportunity explain the value of conservation to visitors,” says Mandy Patmore.
“The eels inlayed on its floor help people understand more about this amazing creature.”
