Basic Fence & Gate Requirements
to comply with the Act Minimum:

• Fence/gate height is 1200mm above the ground on the outside of the fence.
• The gap between the ground and bottom of the fence/gate must not exceed 100mm.
• The gap between the verticals must not exceed 100mm.
• In general mesh fences/gates with gaps 10-50mm must be at least 1800mm high.
• An area of 1200mm around the outside of the fence/gate must be clear of anything that could be used to climb over the fence e.g. trees, furniture, wood piles, gardens etc.
• Gates and doors must open outwards. All gates/doors must be self closing and self latching.
  Latches attached on the outside need to be at 1500mm high and if attached on the inside where you need to reach over the top can be at 1200mm high.
